Disability Awareness Day Festival - Wednesday 24th August

Festival in the park, the annual event to celebrate everything disability is back! Music, food and entertainment for all the family.

Join us at our marquee at Wanstead Green next month. Check out our vintage tea shop where you can also buy plants, homewares, home-made chutneys and jams and just-picked items from the Sprout There! allotment. On show will also be the Uniting Friends “1952” art exhibition and there will even be a chance to enter the contest to paint your own masterpiece!

Free entry. Bring cash for refreshments, rides etc.

Cost: FREE.

Travel: Non day service users, meet at Wanstead Green. Day service members will be transported directly.

UF Radio - August 2022: "Everybody Loves the Sunshine"

On the radio show this month, we spoke about the what the Learning Disability Festival is about, what it means to everyone, and some of the activities that take place on the day. Listen along as our members share their thoughts on the summer, their plans and their memories from past years. UF Radio - July 2022: "Our Right to Learn"

Changes are afoot that will remove the rights of students with learning disabilities to go to college. Instead, they are being asked to go to day centres that are run by the council. Community integration, which is so important, will go. Is this fair? Are you affected by this change? Did you go to college? We want to hear from you so you can tell us what you think about this. How important was it or is it for you? Get your voice heard with the UF Radio crew to challenge this move.
UF Radio - June 2022: "Proud to be Me"

The show this month is linked with Mencap’s Learning Disability Week from June 20th - 26th 2022, looking at what life is like living with a learning disability. The group started by discussing their identity or what makes you, you. We then talked about whether they see themselves as someone with a learning disability. Is the label working for them as individuals? We finished the discussion with a nod to Pride month by asking each person what they were proud of about themselves.
