Who and how we help

Who we help

Our members are adults with a wide range of learning disabilities. We support them and their families, friends and carers.

Our services cover Redbridge, Newham, Havering, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham and Essex.

How we help

All our services are open to people who become members of Uniting Friends.

-Our Daytime Services

We run a daytime service called Out There! Daytime. It offers an enormous range of activities that promotes personal development and independence. These include basic skills learning, supported college, a huge choice of sports, arts and crafts, dance and horticultural activities.

All activities are supported by our team of friendly, qualified and experienced staff.

Out There! Daytime runs from Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 9AM until 4PM.

Read more here.

-Our Evening and Weekend Services

Our evening and weekend service is called Out There! Evenings and Weekends. There is a comprehensive programme of activities arranged each month both locally and across London, designed and chosen by our members themselves. For example, we offer theatre trips, sporting activities, meals out, cinema visits and much more!

There are weekly drop-in sessions which includes social time in a local pub, as well as Change 4 Life health activities to get our members involved in things such as cookery, dance and yoga.

Read more here.

As part of the same service, we also run Network Groups. This is popular with members who are looking for closer friendships or those looking to do their 'own thing' with regard to activities. Together with a support worker, they plan their own social calendar with three or four friends.

-Holidays

We offer various breaks in the UK and abroad throughout the year. Read more here.

UF Radio - February 2021: "Valentines and Vaccinations"

This month's show explores how people were feeling about their upcoming COVID vaccines. Did they feel concerned in any way or just confident that the vaccine would be a positive step back to normality? The people that had already been vaccinated gave feedback to reassure others. The show also covers our Valentine's theme and whether people felt they really wanted a relationship, if not currently in one. We invited the group to say how they could be supported to make this happen.

UF Radio - January 2021: "Keeping it Fun in 2021"

After a pretty awful 2020, we started the new year talking about things that are known to make you and others feel good. We asked: "What can you do for someone in this difficult time?" Helping others is a tried and tested feel-good hormone trigger! We also asked about our own wellbeing, doing something new and doing more of what you love. We need to have fun! Listen to our show to hear what our crew had to say and, whilst you're at it, hear some great cracking tunes along the way.
